Saratoga Springs →Most people assume the pole has to go into the driveway, which means saw cutting concrete, a patch you'll always see, and a bigger bill. Usually it doesn't.
In-ground hoops have a 2 to 3 foot overhang between the pole and the backboard. If there's a strip of dirt or grass along the edge of where you want to shoot, the pole goes there and the backboard still hangs out over the concrete. Same court, no cutting.
The other thing worth getting right is depth. Most systems want a hole around 16 inches wide and 48 inches deep, which puts the footing below the Utah County frost line. Come up short and the pole heaves and leans a year or two later, and the only fix is digging the whole thing out.

Usually not. The backboard overhang means the pole can sit in soil just off the edge of the driveway or pad while the board still reaches over the playing surface. That's the cheaper install and it's what most yards allow.
